About

Charles Lee (b. 1983, Honolulu) is a multi-disciplinary artist and  MFA Candidate at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Lee’s work lingers on the delicate borders of interior and exterior, self and world. Working with multiple mediums, he chooses whichever means of expression he sees fit for the dissemination of a feeling. Lee’s relationship with making is change, transmutation and transformation. He is quoted saying: “In my work, a two dimensional photograph changes into a sculpture, a found object transmutes into a historical artifact, a painting transforms into an assemblage of materials; the possibilities are boundless.” Lee is the recipient of the 2022 Edwin Anthony & Adelaine Boudreaux Cadogan Scholarship and Contemporary Art Award, All College Honors Scholarship, the Graduate Merit Scholarship, the 2021 Pabst Open Door Grant and the 2022 Recology Artist in Residence. His work has been exhibited widely in San Francisco (Minnesota Street Project) and London (1014 Gallery).
